Tomás Molina, author of the first goal in the 2x0 victory over Técnico Universitario that left Liga de Quito 3 points behind the leader Aucas, spoke with 'FB Radio' (105.7 FM) about the Super Classic this Sunday against Aucas (14:00) and how the King of Cups arrives.
- What's at stake in the Super Classic?
- It's going to be difficult but we know it's going to be very important. Hopefully, we can play the game that we have been working on and get the 3 points. We have been preparing for it all week, studying how they play, how they attack. We will work to counter their strengths. It's important no matter how you look at it, it's a match that is considered a Classic, it's important because they are in first place, it's important because we need to win again to regain confidence, it's important because if you win this match, you join the fight at the top (LDU would equal Aucas with 10 points if they win in Chillogallo)."
- How did you experience your goal against Técnico Universitario and the 2x0 victory?
"It was a relief for many reasons, first of all for the team, we needed to win no matter what, we had just suffered a heavy blow against Católica (0x4) and were eliminated from the Copa Ecuador (knocked out in the 88th finals by Imbabura). It wasn't going our way, the match was close, that's why. And personally, because I had an injury, I was going to the bench and getting minutes, and scoring was important to me."
- Definitely a boost of morale...
- Winning gives you some confidence, approaching the week in a different way. Obviously, we know that we won against a team that was last, at home, with 2 more players, so we shouldn't think that we are the best team. Obviously, it helps but we know that now we are going to face the first-placed team (Aucas) at their stadium (the Gonzalo Pozo stadium), but we have the team to win this match and achieve important things. I really have a lot of faith that we are going to have a great game.
- Do you have any problems sharing the center of the attack with another striker?
- That's for Luis (Zubeldía) to decide, I'm here to help wherever I'm needed. The truth is that I feel comfortable in any position along the attacking line, Luis will evaluate what's best for the team. It doesn't bother me at all to play wherever... As long as I get to play, I'll even play as a goalkeeper!"
