Montreal has been having an excellent 2022 campaign. They come into Wednesday sitting tied for third in the East with the New York Red Bulls, both sitting nine points back of the conference-leading Philadelphia Union. With a rather tough scoreless draw against second-placed New York City FC last Saturday, Montreal is unbeaten in their past three match, and have won four of their last seven matches, and have won two of their previous three outside of Quebec. Montreal has been decent on the road this season, posting 5-4-2 record thus far. They possess one of the top scorers in the MLS, as Romell Quioto is tied for ninth in goals this season (9).
The Crew are a few points back of Montreal, six to be exact, as they sit sixth in the conference. They are certainly not in a set playoff spot with a baker’s dozen matches left in the season. They sit just three points ahead of the eighth-place Chicago Fire coming into Wednesday, and are unbeaten in their last nine matches, going 4-0-5 during that span. They are a little well-rested, as their latest match with Charlotte FC was suspended early in the first half, with their last full match, a scoreless draw with the New England Revolution, taking place 11 days ago. A win for the team tied for the second-most draws in the league would be extremely helpful in keeping pace with the rest of the teams currently holding a playoff spot.
This is the first of encounter between the two squads, as they will meet in Quebec next month.
