The president of Napoli, Aurelio de Laurentiis, criticized UEFA for "fake" European competitions like the Conference League, opened the door to a new European competition, and stated that he does not want to sign African players because of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Always controversial, De Laurentiis didn't mince his words. The film producer appeared on the program 'Wall Street Italia' to discuss various topics related to football and finance. In his statements, he made it clear that he is against all UEFA competitions and that there is a need for the big leagues to come together and create a new competition.
"We idiots agree to play about fifty games a year. The five big leagues need to have their own tournament. Enough of these fake competitions like the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League. We need to create competitions that are played over a week among the top five European leagues," he said.
"I was against the Super League because it was an invitation-only competition. There were privileged people inviting others. The Conference is nonsense. Young people are leaving us because the championship is fake and not competitive anymore," he added.
