The Ivorian forward, signed in the recently presented transfer market from Ajax, will have to undergo chemotherapy treatment.

Sébastien Haller, forward from Ivory Coast recently arrived at Borussia Dortmund from Ajax, will be out for several months. The German club informed that the testicular tumor the player has is malignant.

"Sebastien will now receive the best possible treatment. The chances of recovery are very good. We wish him and his family strength and optimism, and our thoughts are with him during this difficult time. We ask the media and fans to understand that we will not publish any medical details about Haller's treatment beyond the mentioned information, neither today nor in the coming months," said BVB sports director Sebastian Kehl.

The 28-year-old Ivorian attacker, who has just signed with the German runners-up from Ajax Amsterdam for about 31 million euros, received the diagnosis on July 19 during the team's concentration in Bad Ragaz, Switzerland.

"We fully support him," said coach Edin Terzic.

The BVB officials did not specify on Wednesday whether, due to the attacker's prolonged absence, the club would reactivate in the transfer market.

Terzic has "several options," said Kehl, specifying that "we will only do something if it makes sense."

Sébastien Haller, the most expensive attacker in the team's history, was supposed to replace Erling Haaland, signed by Manchester City. The only center forward in the current Dortmund squad is the promising 17-year-old Youssoufa Moukoko.

Nevertheless, coach Edin Terzic indicated that Donyell Malen, Karim Adeyemi, or Thorgan Hazard could also play up front.
