Virtual Reality (or "VR" for its acronym in English) is gaining more and more ground. Whether in entertainment or workspaces, companies are already taking advantage of the benefits of a virtual space. This is what Meta (the company that owns Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram) aimed for a few years ago when it acquired Oculus -in 2014- and with it its flagship product: Oculus Quest 2... now called Meta Quest 2.
It has been precisely the Meta Quest 2 headset that has been preferred by many people to take their first steps in the "Metaverse" compared to the offerings of other manufacturers such as HTC Vive, Valve Index, HP Reverb G2, and many more. Its biggest differential factor: it works without the need to connect to a PC.

The price hike of Meta Quest 2
Meta's blog shared yesterday that its reality headset will see, from next August, a $100 increase compared to its official price. That puts the 128Gb model at $399 and the 256Gb model at $499. That's not all, as the owners of Facebook have also indicated that some accessories will also undergo a certain price increase which has not been specified.
However, for a limited time, all Meta Quest 2s that are purchased after the price increase will come with Beat Saber completely free. Something that serves as a small incentive in the face of the price increase.
Meta Quest 2, the favorite VR headset of the people
According to Francisco Geronimo's tweet (analyst at IDC), the Meta Quest 2 has sold almost 15 million units since its release in October 2020. A real success.
The exact figure shared by Geronimo is 14.8 million headsets sold worldwide. This makes Meta Quest 2 the best-selling VR headset worldwide. This puts Meta's headset above the offerings of the competition.
It would be negligent to ignore that Meta Quest 2 has a very important advantage over its competitors: the ability to function without being connected to a PC. This makes the Quest 2 a robust VR tool with little compromise in terms of mobility. The limit is only your room.
The sales of Meta Quest 2 were encouraging from the start since in just one year more than one million units were sold, exceeding Meta's expectations for this product.
It is known that the adoption of VR technology is on the rise. In 2021, it grew by 97%, while in the first three months of 2022, it grew by an overwhelming 242%. The best part is that more experiences and games are yet to come, which will make this headset even more attractive.
It is clear that the future is virtual and that many people are already making their space in the Metaverse.
