Juan Pablo Varillas' participation (ATP: 109) in the Kitzbühel Open in Austria, part of the ATP Tour 250, ended in the round of 16, after losing 2-0 to Spanish player Albert Ramos (ATP: 52), with sets of 6-3 and 6-4. Despite the early elimination, the Peruvian tennis player maintains the chance of entering the Top 100 of the ranking.
The duel on Court Kuechenmeister started with an advantage for the Spaniard, who took advantage of his serve and broke his opponent's service, quickly leading 3-0 in the first set. The comfortable distance on the scoreboard gradually consolidated and ended with a victory of 6-3, after approximately 46 minutes.
During the second game, 'Juanpi' showed greater solidity in the first points and everything was level (2-2). However, the Peruvian athlete lost the score while serving and could not recover, falling 6-4, in approximately 48 minutes on the Tennis Stadium Kitzbühel court.
Remember that Juan Pablo Varillas had previously eliminated Spanish player Carlos Taberner in the round of 32 (2-0), but he could not advance further and will now focus entirely on the next tournament he will play: he will be present at the Directv Open Lima Challenger that will start in early August.
Depending on other results, our national racket could enter the Top 100 of the ATP ranking in next week's update (he is virtually in position 96). If the expected combination does not occur, the Peruvian still have the option to climb by adding victories in the next competitions he will face.
