The fever for Peruvian coins has generated that thousands of compatriots search at all costs for one of these metal pieces that can cost hundreds of soles, as long as they meet certain requirements that make them attractive to collectors.
While many Peruvians have used TikTok to celebrate that they were able to find a 1991 sol that is valued at more than 500 soles or a 20 cent coin that could cost more than 50 soles, the truth is that some young people lamented having been scammed in their tireless search for the coveted 'promised coin'. This is the case of a young Peruvian woman named Vivian Lucero, a Peruvian who shared a video on her TikTok account to issue a singular warning. The young woman did not want another person to be scammed like she was and decided to warn that there are circulating in the country some five Mexican peso coins, which at first glance are very similar to the five Peruvian soles.
As you can see in the TikTok video, the young woman shows this Mexican coin, which has very similar features. However, if you look closely at the coin, it has the shield of Mexico and some characteristic signs of Aztec culture.
