Some smartphones have water resistance and can be submerged for a long time. Learn all about this certification that prevents accidents.

Technology is growing by leaps and bounds, so devices like smartphones are increasingly having new features that make them easier to use and give them an advantage over other devices in the same range.

If you're thinking of buying a smartphone and you're thinking of creating content underwater or you're simply one of those people who are usually exposed to water, you should know that there are already "submersible" devices available, which have a special resistance that allows them to withstand up to a certain depth. What makes it possible for them to resist water? Here at Líbero.pe, we're going to tell you all about it.

What is IP68 on a Smartphone?

The IP68 certification, or simply IP68, is a code that indicates that a phone or smartphone is protected against fine dust particles and is also submersible for up to 30 minutes at a depth of 1.5 meters in fresh water.

While this IP68 certification allows the phone to resist water, this doesn't mean that you can swim in the sea with the device. The resistance applies to fresh water, so the salt from the sea could damage the components of the device.

However, this water resistance will allow content creators to unleash their creativity with underwater photography and videos. However, it should be noted that IP68 only applies to fresh water, and care should be taken not to expose the phone to extreme conditions with other types of fluids.

You have to know that the prefix IP stands for Ingress Protection, while '6' means it's resistant to fine dust, and '8' makes it waterproof and submersible.

Why don't all Android smartphones have IP68 certification?

This certification implies that the phone is completely sealed, so that its components cannot be damaged by liquid. Making a smartphone waterproof is very expensive, so only some premium devices have this feature.

Currently, on the international market, devices like the Honor Magic 4 Pro, the Huawei P50 Pro, or the OnePlus 9 Pro are some of the smartphones that have this certification.
