Juan Pablo Varillas (world No. 109) started on the right foot in the ATP 250 Kitzbuhel in Austria. The Peruvian tennis player qualified for the next stage of the competition after defeating Spanish Carlos Taberner 6-4 and 6-3.
The athlete showed solidity in serves and reception, despite the great ability of the opponent. In the first set, he faced some complications, however, he showcased his skill to emerge victorious. Then, in the second part, he was also able to overcome his rival.
Juan Pablo Varillas hopes to continue advancing in the tournament, as he is also close to the top 100. This time, the athlete will face Spanish Albert Ramos Viñolas (No. 52 in the rankings) on Wednesday.
It is worth mentioning that the national tennis player has had competitions in recent weeks, as he recently participated in the ATP 250 Gstaad (Switzerland). Peru's No. 1 racket was eliminated in the quarterfinals against Dominic Thiem.
However, Varillas left a good impression in the tournament as he defeated Roberto Bautista (No. 20 in the rankings) 7-6 (3) and 7-5 in the round of 16. The match was played last Wednesday but suffered several postponements due to rain, so it was completed the following day (Thursday).
