Official. On Friday, Arsenal confirmed the signing of Ukrainian full-back Oleksandr Zinchenko for 32 million pounds (38 million euros).
Oleksandr Zinchenko arrives in London to wear the Arsenal shirt, coached by Spanish manager Mikel Arteta, coming from Manchester City, the club he signed with in 2016 and has played 128 matches for.
Zinchenko, raised in Shakhtar Donetsk's academy, sought refuge in Russia during the Donbass War, where he managed to play for Ufa, until he signed with City in 2016. Now, in the 2022-23 season, he will seek a historic Premier League title with the 'gunner' shirt.
Oleksandr Zinchenko swaps Manchester to join Arsenal in London
After a loan spell at PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands, the player settled in City, combining the role of substitute with that of a starter, as well as becoming the captain of the Ukrainian national team, with whom he has played 52 matches.
His trophy cabinet includes four Premier League titles, four League Cups, an FA Cup, and he was a starter in the Champions League final that City lost to Chelsea in 2021.
"We are very happy that Oleksandr Zinchenko has arrived," said Mikel Arteta, who coincided with the full-back when he was an assistant to Pep Guardiola at City. "He is a player I know very well and have followed since my time at City. He has a lot of quality and gives us many options thanks to his versatility in attack and defense."
In the last season of European football, he only participated in fifteen of City's league matches under manager Pep Guardiola.
Praise for Zinchenko at Arsenal
"He is a player of great quality, who will give us options and versatility," emphasized the coach of Arsenal about the Ukrainian.
It should be noted that he is Arsenal's fifth signing in this summer transfer market, following Gabriel Jesus, Marquinhos, Matt Turner, and Fabio Vieira. (AFP/EFE)
