During the transfer market, there is talk about the future of many players and several Colombian footballers are often protagonists of these transfers, and one of them is James Rodríguez. The Colombian midfielder continues to define his future while training with Al Rayyan; however, speculations about the player's imminent departure continue to make headlines. Now there is talk of a possible return to Portuguese football.
When James was starting his football career, his good performance led a European club and Champions League winner to take notice of him and ended up signing him for over five million dollars, Porto in Portugal. At that club, the midfielder developed and won eight titles, including the Europa League. Now the Colombian, who has a great experience in Europe, could return to Do Dragao, or at least that's what the rumors say.
Portuguese media indicate that the player's agent, Jorge Mendes, already has contacts with Porto to try to place the Colombian in the team's squad for the 2022/23 season. This would also happen due to James Rodríguez's intention to leave Qatari football. The '10' arrived at Al Rayyan last season, played 15 matches, scored five goals, and made six assists.

According to the rumors linking the Colombian to Porto, one of the big obstacles would be the player's salary, as James would have to make an "effort" to reach an agreement. This would be one of the reasons why negotiations with other clubs for the Colombian have not progressed. Although all possibilities are open, there are some who claim that the Portuguese club does not prioritize the Colombian.
The journalist and transfer expert in Portugal, Pedro Sarmiento, was consulted by the program 'Blog Deportivo' of Blu Radio, and there he was questioned about the alleged interest from Porto in James Rodríguez. His response was clear when he said, "I can guarantee that there is no possibility of James Rodríguez returning to Porto this transfer window in Portugal."

In addition, the journalist stated that, "today has been marked by rumors talking about a possibility between James Rodríguez and Porto... (...) he is a player who obviously interests any club in Portugal, but James still does not have in his mind to return to Portugal, and he is still not a player that Porto prioritizes. The information I have at this time is that he is not a possibility for Porto yet,"
Another factor that hinders James Rodríguez's return to Do Dragao stadium is that recently the club would have secured the signing of Gabriel Verón, one of the new Brazilian gems who would come from Palmeiras and whose transfer would be made for 10 million euros. The 19-year-old player who plays as a forward would sign a contract until 2027.
