Gastón Pereiro

Gastón Pereiro is a 20-year-old Uruguayan player who plays for PSV Eindhoven. He is the current sensation in Dutch football, after scoring 12 goals so far this season. Some media outlets claim that he is the successor to Luis Suárez, the current top scorer for Barcelona and the Pichichi of the BBVA League.

"Gastón has nothing to do with the prototype of a Uruguayan player known for his fight, displacement, and speed. He is technical, precise, and has good ball control," commented Fabián Coito, coach of the Uruguayan U-20 team.

Pereiro is actually a very different player from Luis Suárez. For starters, he is left-footed. And he has refined technique. The similarities with the Barcelona striker are that they both developed at Nacional in Uruguay before moving to the Netherlands in search of perfection.

Luis Suárez arrived at Groningen, where he scored 15 goals in his first season. Pereiro, on the other hand, joined PSV and has already scored 12 goals to date, just three less than Suárez did when he decided to play in Dutch football.

"It has been a great decision to choose the Dutch league, which is less demanding than those in Spain, Italy, and England. Among the players I had in the U-20 team, he was the one with the most class and level," added Coito, who coached him in the U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.
