Official: Matthijs de Ligt has become a new player for Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich continues to strengthen ahead of the 2022-2023 season. This Tuesday, the club announced the signing of Matthijs de Ligt, a defender who was previously with Juventus. The player has signed a contract with the Bavarians until June 2027.

After the signing was made official, the Dutch international expressed his excitement for the new challenge in his career. "I am very happy to become a player of this great club. In fact, President Herbert Hainer, CEO Oliver Kahn, and sports board member Hasan Salihamidzic warmly welcomed the center-back. "He was a dream player for us. "We wanted to bring him three years ago. We were convinced of his qualities as a defender then, and we are even more so now. With his professionalism, his greed, and his wonderful character, Matthijs fits in both our team and our ambitions. He will play an important role on and off the field at Bayern. He was already a leader at Ajax when he was young, and at 22, he is still viable at the high level he is at," commented Salihamidzic.

De Ligt was developed in the Ajax academy and made his debut in the first team at the age of 17. Since then, the defender has played 117 official matches with the Amsterdam club. He then moved to Juventus and also accumulated 117 appearances. Finally, with the national team, he has 38 caps.
