According to ESPN analyst, Miguel Ponce committed a foul on Jair González that was not sanctioned by referee Marco Antonio Ortiz
The Chivas drew 1-1 against Santos Laguna on Saturday in Matchday 3 of the Apertura 2022 in Liga MX. However, according to ESPN's forensic analyst, Felipe Ramos Rizo, the result could have been different due to a penalty that was not called against Guadalajara.
In the 74th minute, Jair González broke free on the right side and when he reached the endline, Chivas' left back, Miguel Ponce, blocked his path and pushed him with his arm. This action was classified by Ramos Rizo as a penalty that was not called by referee Marco Antonio Ortiz.
At the moment of this controversial action, the score was already tied 1-1, so if the penalty had been awarded, Santos would have had the opportunity to turn the game around.
José de Jesús González opened the scoring for Guadalajara in the 47th minute after pushing the ball into the net following a great individual play by Alexis Vega, which was Chiva's first goal in the Apertura 2022.
Santos equalized in the 70th minute after a great individual play by Eduardo Aguirre, who cut inside the box before beating goalkeeper Miguel Jiménez. The play was reviewed by VAR due to a possible offside, but the goal was subsequently validated.
With this result, Chivas remain in 15th place with two points, after two draws and one loss, while Santos is in 7th place with 4 points, resulting from one win, one draw, and one loss.
The next match for Chivas will be on Wednesday, July 20th at home against León, as they have a friendly match scheduled against Juventus on Friday, July 22nd. On the other hand, Santos returns to action on Saturday, July 23rd, visiting Toluca.
