SOUTHWICK — Thousands of people will descend on Southwick this weekend for their fix of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship tour, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. It will be the tour’s 41st visit to The Wick 338, the hilly and sandy track on Powder Mill Road.
The rural town of less than 10,000 will see national television coverage, hundreds of riders, and thousands of spectators July 9 for the Southwick National, one of 12 rounds of the national championship series. The Wick 338 owner Rick Johnson said that the weather is looking near perfect for a day of motocross races. Rain showers on Friday are expected to precede a partly cloudy day Saturday with temperatures in the mid-80s.
