Boca Juniors drew a goalless tie against Corinthians in Brazil and was favored to win the tie and advance to the quarter-finals of the Copa Libertadores. Despite several absences in the Brazilian team, 'Timao' resisted for 90 minutes. In the penalty shootout, the Brazilians were more effective and secured their qualification.
Dario Benedetto missed a penalty in the first half and also in the penalty shootout, making him the target of mockery on Corinthians' official Twitter account. The photo of the striker was placed on a membership card of one of Corinthians' organized fan groups.
In another post, they wrote: "Boca, tell me how it feels... to have your dad at home," a song used by some Argentine fans to mock the Brazilian national team.
Battaglia's words
In the press conference after the match, Sebastian Battaglia stated: "The opponent came to draw and go for penalties, and that's what happened. The team was functioning well in my opinion. The guys made a great effort. Sometimes you don't deserve it and still go through, today we deserved it but didn't make it. These are things that happen in football, you have to understand."
"People will remember that Boca got knocked out, even though I feel a little satisfaction inside of me for the effort and the game they played, I am proud, but the reality is that Boca got knocked out," added the coach.
