The round of 16 of the Copa Sudamericana 2022 has ended. This Thursday, the last three clubs that secured their spot in the quarter-finals of the international tournament were revealed. With a double from their top scorer Bernardo Cuesta, the Dominó defended their home ground and brought joy to their fans.
The highlight of the day came from the modest Deportivo Táchira from Venezuela, who eliminated Santos in Brazil on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regular time. Ceará, on the other hand, had no trouble in thrashing The Strongest 3-0 and securing their spot in the quarter-finals with a total score of 5-1.
This Thursday, Independiente del Valle, Atlético Goianiense, and Sao Paulo obtained the last tickets by eliminating Lanús, Olimpia, and U. Católica from Chile, respectively. On Tuesday, on the other hand, Inter de Porto Alegre and Nacional from Montevideo had already secured their presence among the top eight.
