The British GP for the tenth round of the Formula 1 takes place this weekend, but there was a terrible incident in the very first lap. After the start of the race, Guanyu Zhou of Alfa Romeo spun out after a collision with George Russell of Mercedes, and three other cars were also affected.
The race at the Silverstone Circuit had started and the Chinese driver started neck and neck with his British counterpart, in ninth and eighth place respectively. However, both of them were pressured by the appearance of Pierre Gasly (AlphaTauri), who tried to overtake them in the middle.
The Frenchman couldn't make any progress and was forced to retreat, but it directly affected George Russell: he hit the Mercedes tire, causing the car to change direction. Due to the impact, Guanyu Zhou received a direct hit and, due to the speed, ended up flipping over on its axis. The scene was impressive.
After the collision, the Asian driver went straight into the gravel, bounced over the safety barrier, and ended up against the wire fence. The medical assistance of the British Grand Prix immediately approached to attend to the affected driver, much to the astonishment of the fans. The intervention lasted several minutes.
At the same time, the accident caused several collisions with Alex Albon (Williams Racing), who was left stranded. Shortly after, Formula 1 reported that both the Thai driver and the Alfa Romeo team member were attended to, conscious, and taken to the medical center for further evaluations. On the other hand, the cars of Esteban Ocon (Alpine) and Yuki Tsunoda (AlphaTauri) also had negative results.
