Alliance Lima aims to win the Clausura Tournament and the planning involves modifying the squad, both with reinforcements and departures. Precisely, this Friday an important departure was announced in the 'Blanquiazules': Paraguayan Édgar Benítez will not renew his contract for the remainder of the 2022 season.
The 'Pájaro's agreement expired last Thursday (June 30) and for some weeks it was speculated that he would not continue in the institution. Although the 34-year-old forward showed great performance since his arrival at La Victoria, there was no new contract.
"Thank you for your dedication and the good moments wearing the blanquiazul. We wish you the best in your next projects. This will always be your home, champion," Alianza Lima shared on their social media. Fans did not hesitate to express their sorrow for the news.
Remember that Édgar Benítez was one of the important players in Carlos Bustos' squad in 2021, which ended with the national title. In that campaign, the 'Pájaro' scored one goal and provided one assist in 19 matches. Although the experienced Paraguayan suffered some injuries, he did not stay out of the field for long.
Édgar Benítez's numbers this season
Throughout the 2022 season, Édgar 'Pájaro' Benítez scored one goal and provided two assists in 14 matches played in the Torneo Apertura of Liga 1; while he made five appearances in the Copa Libertadores and managed to score once.
