The Community of Madrid wants to break into the world of Formula 1

The Community of Madrid wants to break into the world of Formula 1 by hosting a race on the automotive calendar. To achieve this, Enrique López, the Minister of Presidency, Justice and Interior, sent a letter to the organizers of the World Championship of this specialty.

In the letter, the Minister expresses to Stefano Domenicali, the person in charge, the great interest that the Madrid autonomous government has in hosting an upcoming F1 Grand Prix. It is a dream they have been working on for a long time.

The text highlights the prestige of the sports events that take place in the capital of Spain. In addition, it brings to Domenicali's attention the great economic development of the Community of Madrid, its enormous tourist attraction and hotel capacity, the efficiency of public transportation, the wide range of cultural and commercial offerings, and also the hospitality of the people of Madrid.

After explaining that the region is one of the most economically thriving in Spain, with excellent gastronomy, extensive shopping hours, and an enviable hotel infrastructure, the letter assures that having Madrid within the Formula 1 racing circuit would be "a success" for all those involved in the sector.

Therefore, López reiterates in the letter the "great interest" that the Government of Madrid has in obtaining this event, and reminds Domenicali that they are ready to work with him and his team, showing the "commitment, willingness, and good disposition" of the Madrid authorities.

Last June, El Mundo published the possibility of the Formula 1 projecting an urban circuit in the vicinity of the Ifema fairground, since the Jarama circuit in Madrid became obsolete and far from the requirements of the F1 organizers.

At that time, it was also considered that the Grand Prix could take place in the Valdebebas area, near the facilities of Real Madrid. Now, it is also being considered the possibility of holding the race in the Morata de Tajuña area, where there is a planned circuit project.

In any case, if the Formula 1 finally gives the green light to Madrid, the race would not take place immediately due to Spain already having the Barcelona Grand Prix, whose contract expires until 2026.
