RB Leipzig, a Bundesliga club, announced the renewal of Christopher Nkunku, a French forward who was coveted by Real Madrid and PSG.

The French forward Christopher Nkunku has renewed his contract with RB Leipzig, which was due to expire in 2024, until 2026, the German club announced."Greetings from Paris, but no need to worry. I will be back in Leipzig soon and I will stay", said the player, who was rumored to be joining PSG, in a message published by the club.

The renewal, according to official figures, implies a clear salary increase from 3 million to 7 million euros per year.

In addition, according to various media reports, the contract includes a buyout clause of more than 60 million euros that could be activated from 2023.

Nkunku had a great performance last season, participating as a scorer or assistant in 52 goals in 55 games, which put him on the radar of several European teams and earned him a place in the French national team.

Both PSG and Real Madrid were interested in Nkunku, but Leipzig refused to negotiate for him.

"I have been impressed by the way the club has backed me. I must thank all those responsible and especially (Managing Director) Oliver Minzlaff, with whom I have always been in contact," said the player in Leipzig's press release.

"We are happy and proud that one of the best players in the world is staying with us," said Technical Secretary Christopher Vivell.

Leipzig, after a terrible start to the season, had an excellent campaign in the second half, finishing fourth in the Bundesliga and qualifying for the Champions League, as well as winning the German Cup.

Nkunku's goals were key to this success, as he became one of the team's key players.
