The Arequipa team called FBC Melgar made it to the round of 16 of the Copa Sudamericana with suspense, and already knows its eight possible opponents. The national team will not face any Brazilian or Argentine team in this phase, to the relief of its fans.

It is worth remembering that this Friday, May 27, starting at 11:00 a.m., the draw for the Copa Sudamericana will take place. The teams from Pot 1 (advancing through the Sudamericana) will face those from Pot 2 (who finished 3rd in the Copa Libertadores).

Melgar and the economic prizes it has been accumulating in the Copa Sudamericana

The Arequipa team started its journey in the Copa Sudamericana from the first preliminary round to the group stage. In that instance, they defeated Cienciano in two home and away matches with an overall score of 2-1 and pocketed their first USD 225,000 dollars.

Then, in the group stage where they shared the series with Racing Club, River Plate, and Cuiabá, they received a second reward for playing the six matches (three at home) for an amount of USD 900,000 dollars.

Now, Melgar's first-place finish in Group B and their advancement to the round of 16 have allowed them to earn an additional USD 500,000 dollars so far in the Sudamericana.

Thus, the prizes obtained by Melgar through their sporting achievements amount to a total of USD 1.625 million dollars. This amount could increase if they continue to progress in the Conmebol tournament.
