Kylian Mbappé confirmed on Monday that French President Emmanuel Macron was "one parameter among others" in his decision to stay at Paris Saint Germain (PSG) and reject Real Madrid, and he assured that the leader gave him "good advice".

"Of course, we have spoken. He has given me good advice. Nowadays, when you are a national figure, you have rights but also duties. I have always wanted to have responsibilities. Now that I have them, I will not step back," the forward said in an interview on the French channel BFM TV.

Minutes after the crowded press conference he held with his club president, Nasser Al Khelaifi, Mbappé affirmed that he had informed the Head of State of his decision and that he was "very happy".

"He told me that he was very happy, that it is good news for the country and that it is great. There was only one call. I have a lot of respect for him. But I have not made this decision because he asked me to stay, but he has been one parameter among others," he stated.

Mbappé will only have a "player role"

Forward Kylian Mbappé, who extended his contract with Paris SG until 2025 on Saturday, putting an end to the transfer saga, promised on Monday that he will not invade the competencies of the club's sports management, stating that "I will not go beyond my role as a player".

"I am still a football player, part of a team, and I will not go beyond this role, I will not go beyond my role as a player," Mbappé said in a press conference alongside his president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi.
