The German team arrived as the big favorite at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium and stepped onto the field with the intention of quickly conquering their second tournament in Europe; however, they found a rival that was determined to spoil the party, that did not give away any spaces, and to top it off, started winning with a goal from Joe Aribo (57'), who took advantage of a defensive error and beat Kevin Trapp.

Although the Scottish team's joy did not last long, as Colombian player Rafael Santos Borré equalized the score 1-1 at the 69th minute with a powerful shot inside the area, forcing the match to go to extra time.

A striker well remembered by Alianza Lima fans and the number '1' of the Peruvian National Team, Pedro Gallese, because in the two matches he faced them in the 2019 Copa Libertadores, wearing the River Plate jersey, he never managed to score a goal against the blanquiazules.
