According to Felipe Ramos Rizo, Aníbal Chalá, a player for Atlas, should have been sent off for a second yellow card just minutes before the Ecuadorian player scored the first goal at Estadio Jalisco, resulting in a 3-1 victory over Chivas in the quarter-finals of Clausura 2022.

Chalá received his first yellow card in the 18th minute when he fouled Roberto Alvarado on the right wing, near the red-and-black area. That action resulted in the ball hitting the crossbar of Camilo Vargas' goal after 'Piojo' took the free kick.

The controversial play occurred in the 33rd minute, when Javier Abella crossed the ball from the right wing. Jesús Sánchez blocked the ball, but Chalá kicked him from behind, an action that was not penalized as a foul. However, for Felipe Ramos Rizo, it should have been the second yellow card for the Ecuadorian player.

"Chalá kicks Sánchez from behind, Fernando Hernández doesn't penalize it, and the Atlas player avoids the second yellow card," wrote ESPN's arbitral analyst on his social media accounts moments after the play that took place in the red-and-white team's area.

In added time of the first half, Chalá appeared alone inside Chivas' penalty area after a pass from Aldo Rocha, and beat Raúl Gudiño with a shot across the goal to score the first goal of the game at Estadio Jalisco, making it 3-1 on aggregate for Atlas.

Atlas entered the second leg of the quarter-finals with a 2-1 advantage, after defeating Guadalajara last Thursday at Estadio Akron with a brace from Ángel Márquez, while Cristian Calderón scored the only goal for Chivas.
