The Levante season has been very irregular and the poor results condemned the institution to the second division. On Thursday, the club lost 6-0 in their visit to Real Madrid, for the 36th matchday of LaLiga Santander, and confirmed their relegation, which unleashed deep sorrow throughout the squad.
After the match, José Luis Morales, captain of the 'Granotes', spoke with Movistar and expressed that the players are solely responsible for what happened tonight at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
"First of all, thank our fans, they have always been with us, but unfortunately we haven't been up to par," began the 34-year-old player. "We apologize, it's very tough," he continued.
"Apologies to our families, to theirs. The only thing that comes to my mind is coming back here next year, where this club deserves to be. We are the main culprits, we are the ones who play, who have gone 27 matchdays without winning and reacted too late," added Morales, with tears in his eyes.
In the midst of the conversation, Vinicius Junior, who shone in the match with a hat trick, approached the experienced Levante player and gave him a hug, consoling him for not having been able to achieve the victory his team needed in matchday 36 of the tournament.
"It has to serve us to know what we have done wrong and make a good project to return to the First Division," José Luis Morales concluded. Finally, he highlighted the difficulty of having to score points as visitors against Real Madrid.
