The T-shirt that Diego Armando Maradona wore against England in the quarterfinals of the Mexico 86 World Cup was auctioned and sold for nearly $9.3 million. The iconic Argentine player's shirt was sold at Sotheby's auction house in the United Kingdom. In the midst of this event, Peter Shilton referred to this valuable item.
The former goalkeeper of the England national team, who was present in that World Cup match where 'The Hand of God' and 'The Goal of the Century' were born, downplayed the amount of money offered for Maradona's apparel. In that sense, he stated that he would never wear it.
"I wouldn't have swapped with Maradona for all the tea in China for what happened that day. I wouldn't even wear it to wash the dishes in my house," said Peter Shilton to the British portal The Sun.

On the other hand, the former England player revealed that one of his teammates swapped shirts with Diego Armando Maradona after the Argentina's victory in the quarterfinals of the Mexico 86 World Cup. However, he never found out.
"If I and some of the other players had known that Hodge had his shirt in the locker room, he wouldn't have gotten it. In the heat of the game, we would have torn it into a thousand pieces. I bet Hodge is happy now that we didn't do that. He knew what he was doing when he didn't tell us he had it," revealed Shilton to the British press.
"Looking back, he's definitely glad we didn't find out. We were very angry, luckily we didn't do it. I'm glad an Englishman got something out of the game," added Shilton.
