Although just last Monday, February 1st, Caín Velásquez underwent surgery on his back, the former UFC Heavyweight Champion announced to his fans that he will be ready to return to training in a few weeks.

Caín Velásquez's Facebook post:

"I want to give you the latest news about the progress of my injury.

Before that, I want to thank you for all your support. Your messages with signs of affection and support helped me and my family in this difficult time."

"On Monday morning, I had arthroscopic surgery to remove bone fragments that were irritating the sciatic nerve. The surgery was a total success and I already feel much better."

"My doctors have recommended resting for now, but I can start with light training in two weeks. They also indicated that I will probably be able to start regular training in four or five weeks. I will follow their recommendations, although I am eager to train as soon as possible. I will keep you updated here and on Twitter. Once again, thank you."

Velásquez's injury forced UFC programmers to seek Stipe Miocic as a last-minute replacement to fight against the current title holder, Fabricio Werdum, at UFC 196. But that fight was also canceled because "Vai Cavalo" withdrew from it after a persistent back injury forced him out of action.
