The world of football stopped to mourn the death of a giant, of Freddy Rincón, one of the greatest Colombian midfielders of all time who died at the age of 55 after a traffic accident.

Admired for his physical strength, powerful shot, and quality with the ball, Rincón died shortly before midnight on Wednesday, April 13 in the city of Cali after battling for three days against a "severe head trauma".

In the early hours of Monday, the former footballer was involved in a violent collision with a bus, which left five injured. He was admitted to Clínica Imbanaco where he remained in intensive care. "Despite all the efforts made by our medical and support team, the patient Freddy Eusebio Rincón Valencia has passed away," the medical center said in a statement.

One of those who reacted to the death of the Colombian is the Argentine Ángel David Comizzo, former coach of Universitario de Deportes who played on the same team with Rincón at América de Cali.

"We are very shocked by what happened. We found out through the media. All of us who had the luck to know him as a player and as a person are very sad," said the Rioplatense former footballer to Gol Caracol.

"He was a great professional, he took care of himself a lot and always arrived at games in the best way. He wasn't a troublemaker, he made himself known more on the field. He was a crack, owner of incredible talent. He was a hundred percent professional. Despite that, he wasn't someone to mess with when he got angry. I was lucky to know him well," added Comizzo.
