Iván Duque mourns the death of Colombian soccer legend
The president of Colombia, Iván Duque, mourned the death of former soccer player Freddy Rincón who "was and will always be an idol of Colombian soccer" and thanked him for "all that magic" he displayed on the field.
"Freddy Rincón was and will always be an idol of Colombian soccer. Thank you Freddy for all that magic and that strength on the field that inspired us and filled us with unforgettable moments. My condolences to his family and friends," the Colombian president posted.
Rincón, 55, died on Wednesday night after not overcoming the injuries he suffered on Monday in a traffic accident, while traveling with three other people in a van that collided with a public service bus in Cali, capital of the Valle del Cauca department.
The former player, captain of Corinthians who became world champion in 2000, entered the history of world soccer by scoring the memorable goal against Germany that qualified Colombia for the round of 16 of the 1990 World Cup. EFE
