A few seconds before the end of the first half, midfielder Marcelino Núñez took a shot and placed it perfectly in the corner of the Sporting Cristal goal. Alejandro Duarte couldn't do anything to stop it.

When it seemed that both teams were going to go to halftime, Marcelino Núñez appeared to break the parity. He found the ball and took a shot to score the first goal for Universidad Católica against Sporting Cristal, giving the Chilean team a temporary advantage.
