The Colombian coach is no longer the selector of Honduras
The Colombian Hernán Darío "Bolillo" Gómez has ceased to be the selector of Honduras "by mutual agreement", announced this Monday the local Football Federation, after the failure in the Concacaf qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
"The Executive Committee of the Selection Commission of the Honduran Federation (Fenafuth) hereby informs that, after a meeting with the national team coach, Hernán Darío Gómez, both parties agreed to terminate the contractual relationship," said the Federation in a statement.
"We express our gratitude to Professor Gómez and his coaching staff, who during the period in charge of "la H" always showed a high sense of professionalism, dedication, effort, discipline, and commitment," added the entity.
The federation has not yet announced the replacement, who will lead the team in the Nations Cup.
The Colombian arrived in October 2021, replacing the Uruguayan Fabián Coito, with the hope of rescuing the qualification, when Honduras was in last place in the table with three points and eight games remaining.
However, Gómez only earned one point in the remaining games, with a draw away to Panama, and finished at the bottom of the octagonal, with 4 points.
The Colombian arrived with the commitment from Fenafuth to take charge of the process towards the 2026 World Cup, but his meager results earned him criticism.
Due to the poor results, Honduras had its worst drop in the FIFA ranking. Canada, El Salvador, Jamaica, and Panama overtook them.
