Barcelona's partners approved by an absolute majority a new sponsorship agreement with the platform Spotify that will allocate around €435 million for advertising on the men's and women's teams, training apparel, and at Camp Nou.

Barcelona sponsorship agreement with Spotify ratified by majority

The sponsorship agreement between Barcelona and the online music streaming platform Spotify, announced on March 15th by the Catalan club, was ratified by an absolute majority this Sunday by the club's committed members.

For this first online scrutiny in the history of the Catalan club, 901 out of 4,478 representatives of the members connected to participate in the vote. Of these, 625 approved the agreement with Spotify, 49 voted against, and 27 abstained. The agreement was therefore ratified by an absolute majority.

No official figures were disclosed, out of respect for the confidentiality clause agreed with the Swedish giant of audio streaming, but according to the Catalan press, the total amount of the agreement amounts to € 435 million.

In exchange, Spotify will be able to place its name on the match jerseys of the male and female teams until 2026 (€ 240 million), on the training jerseys until 2025 (€ 15 million), at the Camp Nou stadium until 2026 (€ 20 million), and has an option for the next eight seasons (2026-2034) for € 160 million.

"This agreement surpasses, in terms of economic figures, any sponsorship agreement that Barça has had in its entire history and thus becomes one of the best in world sports," said President Joan Laporta at the extraordinary general assembly this Sunday.

The Swedish company will also benefit from other advantages, according to the Catalan press, such as the creation of a summer tournament in its name, sponsorship on the jerseys of the lower teams, VIP seats for Barcelona matches, and the ability to place its name in the press room, in the mixed zone, on the bench, and behind the goal.

The current sponsor of the men's first team, the Japanese e-commerce giant Rakuten, sees its contract with the club expire on June 30th, just like the DIY tools company Stanley with the women's team.

But the president highlighted that there was another important reason that tipped the scales in favor of the world's most popular audio streaming platform: "the sensitivity to our way of being and doing. They have understood what Barça means and why we are 'More than a Club,' as we like to define ourselves. They will soon present their application in Catalan language."

Juli Guiu, another leader of the blaugrana club, stated that the club is in talks with the Swedish giant for Barcelona members and fans to benefit from discounts on Spotify subscriptions.
