New coach for the Venezuelan national team
The Argentine José Pekerman was announced this Tuesday at a press conference as the new coach of Venezuela, the last-place team in the South American qualifying standings for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
"I know I am in the right place," commented Pekerman, 72 years old, in his first words as the coach of the only country in CONMEBOL that has never been able to play in a World Cup. "We have a common idea: to leave a mark," he added.
"Welcome, José Néstor Pekerman. Pekerman is Vinotinto," read a video displayed on the screens in the room where Pekerman was presented at a hotel in Caracas.
"It is a day of joy for Venezuelan football," said the president of the Venezuelan Football Federation, Jorge Giménez, who assured that he hopes the arrival of the Argentine will be a "turning point" for the Vinotinto. AFP
