The Peruvian delegation paraded this Thursday at the Pascual Guerrero Olympic Stadium at the opening of the I Junior Pan American Games Cali - Valle 2021 in Colombia, a multi-sport event that will take place until December 5 for young people between the ages of 14 and 22.
The national athletes were led by Olympic skater Ángelo Caro and judoka Noemí Huayhuameza, who were the chosen flag bearers for the presentation of the delegation, which is made up of 160 athletes.
Renzo Manyari, president of the Peruvian Olympic Committee, accompanied the national delegation along with mission chief Leyla Chihuán and the president of the Peruvian Sports Institute, Gustavo San Martín.
Peru at the Cali 2021 Junior Pan American Games
In total, there are 41 delegations and 3500 athletes participating in the 28 different disciplines of the first Junior Pan American Games.
These sports include badminton, bowling, canoeing, BMX racing, track cycling, diving, fencing, artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, judo, karate, weightlifting, wrestling, swimming, artistic swimming, speed skating, modern pentathlon, rowing, skateboarding, softball, taekwondo, tennis, table tennis, archery, triathlon, sailing, volleyball, and beach volleyball.
The Junior Pan American Games will provide direct qualification to the champions in individual sports for the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games in Chile.
Among the delegation from Peru are skater Ángelo Caro, judoka Noemí Huayhuameza, athletes Mary Luz Andía, weightlifter Paola Saldarriaga, swimmer Joaquín Vargas, among others.
