The portable console from the company that simulates Nintendo Switch will not arrive on its initial release date due to a supply chain crisis and lack of materials.

Valve has announced that it will delay the release of its Steam Deck console by two months due to supply chain issues and material shortages, which have forced them to slow down production.

"We are very sorry, as we did everything possible to avoid the widespread problems in the supply chain but, due to the shortage of materials, our factories are not receiving the components on time to meet the initially scheduled release dates," the company explained in a statement.

According to their indications, shipments of the Steam Deck console will begin in February 2022 as planned, and products will be shipped in the order of reservation, which remains despite this delay.

Valve announced the release of this device, which shares features with the Nintendo Switch and allows users to play PC games, last July. There are three different models: the basic one has 64 GB of internal game storage and two more advanced models have SSD hard drives with 256 GB and 512 GB.

Steam Deck Features

The system has a 7-inch touch screen (1280 x 800 pixels) and symmetrical stick arrangement, as well as its own docking station that can be connected via HDMI and -although sold separately- will allow for gameplay in desktop mode using the console itself.

The starting price will be $419 for the most basic version. A customized and optimized APU for portable gaming is the minimum it could have; an AMD with Zen 2 4c/8t CPU, 2.4-3.5 GHz and an 8 RDNA 2 Cus GPU, 1-1.6 GHz, to be specific. The RAM? 16 GB LPDDR5 and two of the three SSD storage editions.

With a 6-axis IMU gyro system, HD haptic vibration system, and -last but not least- software based on SteamOS 3.0 operating system that preserves and transfers all Steam functions to the device: chat, store, community, cloud saving, remote play, and notifications.
