Martín Liberman was the star guest on last Friday's program 'Al Ángulo', and the question about how he considers Carlos Zambrano's performance at Boca Juniors was an unavoidable one. The former FOX Sports presenter was critical of the La Blanquirroja defender.
"There is not much science to it. There is one thing that is very easy. When a footballer is returned to you from Europe, it's for a reason. The good ones do not come back from Europe, huh? And I'm not saying this about Zambrano, I'm saying it about any player of any nationality," began the 'Colorado'.
"The problem is that some (fans) chose to victimize themselves and understand that a critique of a footballer is linked to a country or nationality. I am Argentinean and I criticize Messi, I question Agüero," he continued.
"In any case, Zambrano seems like a weak, mediocre player who could never earn a place in Boca, even though Boca is a bad team and in a time of crisis. Imagine him in a good time for Boca. All I am saying is the truth, Zambrano never stood out, he never played well and that's why he is always a substitute," he argued.
Regarding the debate he had with Marco Zambrano, brother of the 'Kaiser', on Twitter. "With respect, I think that one can say anything. I understand that his brother comes out to defend him as he did and to question my abilities. The brother is the brother, and he has to defend him," he said.
"The problem with the brother is that he wants to compare me to Riquelme and he uses one of Riquelme's quotes talking about Zambrano, what is he going to say being the vice president of Boca, that Zambrano is a donkey. When they ask Riquelme about him, he says he is a great player, and the brother says who knows more, Riquelme or Liberman. It is very likely that Riquelme, if you want we can discuss it, now because Riquelme says that Zambrano is good, I do not have to say the same," the Argentine continued.
"For me, good players are Cueva, Carrillo, Tapia. Zambrano is weak. I have every right to say it. Whether I am wrong or not, it is the analysis I come to after seeing him play," he concluded.
