Homosexual soccer player receives support from colleagues
The news of Josh Cavallo went around the world and received the support of his fellow professionals.
Gerard Piqué, Antoine Griezmann, Javi López, and other sports personalities expressed their support for Australian soccer player Josh Cavallo, who announced his homosexuality on Wednesday through a message on his Twitter account and a video posted on his team's account, Adelaide United.
"Hey, @JoshuaCavallo, I don't have the pleasure of knowing you personally, but I want to thank you for the step you're taking. The world of football is very behind and you are helping us move forward," wrote Gerard Piqué in reference to Cavallo's tweet with the images.
Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann was another player who voiced his support. "Proud of you," tweeted the Frenchman along with an image of part of the message revealed by the 21-year-old left back.
"Congratulations on your bravery and proud of you," posted Spanish defender Javi López, teammate of Cavallo, who previously played for Espanyol in Barcelona and joined Adelaide in November 2020.
Pau Gasol, a legendary Spanish basketball player who retired from the sport a few weeks ago, commented on this announcement: "In 2021, this shouldn't be news. Thank you for this step forward for sports. Well said, @JoshuaCavallo!"
"All the best from the Netherlands," also commented the Go Ahead Eagles' account, a Dutch team that competes in the Eredivisie and joined the displays of solidarity. EFE
