Planning begins. UEFA announced on Tuesday that its member federations interested in hosting the 2028 UEFA Euro have until March 2022 to submit their bids and the appointment of hosts will take place in September 2023.
According to UEFA, each bid must propose 10 stadiums with the following conditions: minimum of one stadium with at least 60,000 net seats; minimum of one stadium, preferably two, with at least 50,000 net seats; minimum of four stadiums with at least 40,000 net seats; and minimum of three stadiums with at least 30,000 net seats.
"To ensure compatibility with the sporting and commercial format of the competition, automatic qualification of the host team will be guaranteed only for a single host or a maximum of two joint host associations, as has always been implemented in the past," clarified the organization in a statement.
UEFA launches the plan for the 2028 Euro
The 2028 EURO will feature 24 teams and 51 matches will be played, just like the two previous tournaments. Joint bids are allowed, as long as the candidate countries are geographically compact.
To ensure compatibility with the sporting and commercial format of the competition, as UEFA specified, automatic qualification of the host selection or selections will only be guaranteed for a single host or a maximum of two joint host federations, as it has always been in the past.
