The Senegalese Kalidou Koulibaly, defender of Napoli, said this Monday that a Fiorentina fan called him a "shit monkey" at the end of Sunday's match in Florence and demanded that he be banned from sports venues "for life".

"'Shit monkey'... they called me that. These people have nothing to do with sports. They must be located and banned from stadiums forever," wrote Koulibaly on his Twitter account, translating the racist insult into French and English as well.

The Senegalese defender received the insult at the end of the Florentine match, which Napoli won 2-1, during an on-field interview and confronted the fan, encouraging him to have the "courage" to say it to his face. The fan, who was in the stands about twenty meters away, walked away.

The case has reached the table of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), whose prosecutor's office opened an investigation after reviewing the match report and speaking with Koulibaly, reported the organization that governs Italian football.

The Florentine match ended with a victory for Napoli, who leads the Serie A standings with a perfect record of points after seven matchdays, ahead of Milan and Inter Milan.

This is not the first case of racism registered this year in Serie A: in fact, three weeks ago, a Juventus fan directed racist insults at Milan's French goalkeeper Mike Maignan during the league match between the two teams.

Juventus identified the responsible person thanks to the cameras at the Allianz Stadium and banned him from sports venues for life.
