After not fighting for over six years, Nick Diaz returned to the UFC octagon this past Saturday. However, his highly anticipated comeback was overshadowed by an excellent performance from Robbie Lawler, who defeated him by technical knockout in the third round.
After losing at UFC 266, the oldest of the Diaz brothers stated that he has no excuses, but that the way this fight was organized was very confusing.
"I'm glad I at least put on a show. I had a lot of stress going into this fight, especially being out for so long. I have no excuses. I had a lot of free time and knew what to expect," he expressed.
On the other hand, the Stockton native did not confirm whether he will participate in another fight, but he did highlight the work done by his opponent, Robbie Lawler, inside the cage.
"I expected it, he (Lawler) was in very good shape. I knew he was dripping (blood) here, so I didn't want to make too much of a mess. I'm glad to be back," he added.
Lawler to Diaz: "I hope your life gets better"
Once the referee stopped the fight, Robbie Lawler celebrated with his corner the victory, but he also took the time to approach Nick Diaz and show him all the respect and admiration he feels for him. "Thank you for bringing out the best in me. I have a lot of respect for you, I hope your life gets better and good things happen to you," he stated.
