The Peruvian boxer Leodan Pezo will be present at Tokyo 2020 as the representative of America
The Peruvian Olympic Committee (COI) announced, through its social networks, that boxer Leodan Pezo will be present at Tokyo 2020 as the representative of America. This makes a total of 20 national athletes qualified for the Olympic Games.
"Peru has its twentieth qualifier for the Olympic Games: Leodan Pezo, bronze medalist in Lima 2019, obtained the pass as the representative of America," says the message shared by the COI on Twitter.
According to Andina, "the Boxing Task Force, formed by the International Olympic Committee due to the suspension of AIBA, sent a communication today to the Peruvian Olympic Committee, confirming the classification of the Peruvian in the Lightweight category (which includes body weight between 57 and 63 kilograms)."
Leodan Pezo, winner of a bronze medal at the Pan American Games in Lima 2019, is the twentieth Peruvian athlete qualified for the upcoming Olympic Games.
The last Peruvian boxer in an Olympic Games was Alberto 'Chiquito' Rossel, who participated in Atlanta 1996, where he lost to Chinese boxer Yang Xiangzhong in the first round.
