Cyclist Mikel Landa suffers multiple fractures after crash in Giro d'Italia
Spanish cyclist Mikel Landa (Bahrain Victorious) suffered a broken collarbone and multiple rib fractures as a result of a severe fall 4 kilometers from the finish line of the fifth stage between Modena and Cattolica, which forced him to abandon the race in an ambulance.
"In the final kilometers of the race, Mikel Landa had an accident involving three other riders on a traffic island. Landa was taken to the Hospital de Riccione, where he is receiving treatment for a broken collarbone and multiple ribs on the left side," said a statement from the Bahrain team.
Mikel Landa will spend the night in the hospital under observation and will undergo further tests.
According to the team, "Landa has been conscious the whole time and is in good spirits and eager to get back on the bike as soon as possible." EFE
