Portland Timbers rescues a 1-1 draw against América
With a controversial penalty converted in the 90+7 minute by Chilean Felipe Mora, the Portland Timbers salvaged a 1-1 draw at their stadium against América on Wednesday in the first leg of the Concacaf Champions League quarterfinals.
The Mexican team took the lead at Providence Park in Portland (Oregon) with a penalty converted by Colombian Roger Martínez in the 45+1 minute.
The team managed by Argentinean Santiago Solari, who was superior in the first half, withstood the attacks from their opponent in the second half with great saves from veteran Guillermo Ochoa.
In the last play of the game, however, Guatemalan referee Mario Escobar signaled a heavily disputed penalty for América, which Mora converted into the final 1-1 score. AFP
