Uruguay is the team with the most expulsions in the history of the Copa America. Since 1916, the Uruguayan squad has seen their players being sent off the field 36 times.

In the last quarterfinal match against Chile, Edinson Cavani (63') and Jorge Fucile (88') received red cards.

A Uruguayan player was not sent off since 16-07-2011, when also in the quarterfinals, Diego Pérez received a red card at the 38th minute against Argentina in Santa Fe. Back then, Uruguay eliminated the hosts in a penalty shootout.

After Uruguay (36), the teams with the most expulsions in the history of the Copa America are Peru (28), Argentina (24), and Chile (24) and Brazil (22).
