Luis Chango's strong words against Barcelona Sporting Club
Luis Chango, honorary president of Mushuc Runa, expressed his displeasure with Barcelona Sporting Club. Chango's grievances arose from the offer made by Carlos Alejandro Alfaro Moreno to donate the old lights from the Monumental stadium to the Ponchito team's stadium, and he became even more upset by the comments made by Aquiles Álvarez, who stated that Chango should be careful with his words against the yellow squad because "90% of the depositors of the Cooperativa de Ahorro y Crédito (Mushuc Runa) are Barcelona fans and he should protect that capital to prevent his company from going bankrupt".
"We are not scrap dealers to receive old lights. Let them sell the lights for scrap to pay off Barcelona's debts (...) Barcelona is champion thanks to LigaPro, not to their merits", said the former director of the Tungurahua team in an interview with Caracol de Ambato radio.
This provoked a response from Aquiles Álvarez, sports vice president of the toreros, who told EL UNIVERSO: "Mr. Chango constantly complains about LigaPro, when he should actually defend it tooth and nail. Without LigaPro, a club like Mushuc Runa would not receive more than $100,000 per year in television rights, and that would only be for broadcasting the matches they play at home against Barcelona, Emelec, and Liga de Quito. Chango complains, accuses, attacks, and criticizes. Now, in an excessive and resentful manner, he claims that Barcelona is champion thanks to LigaPro. The FEF and LigaPro should open an official investigation and sanction him for these statements. It is not acceptable for him to make those kinds of comments, especially since he runs a cooperative where the majority of depositors are Barcelona fans (...) I also speak my mind, but I would never defame, accuse, or disparage a club. Much less should he do it against Barcelona, because 90% of the depositors (of the Mushuc Runa Credit and Savings Cooperative) are Barcelona fans. He should protect that capital to prevent the cooperative from going bankrupt. Barcelona will send a request to open an investigation with the FEF and LigaPro".
In response to Álvarez's latest comments, Chango, in an interview with Huancavilca radio, said: "I also read what Mr. Álvarez said, he insidiously mixes the Cooperative de Ahorro y Crédito with the fact that 90% of its shareholder depositors are Barcelona fans. He suggests that they can withdraw their funds. Don't suggest it, say it directly and let's see how many withdraw their money and if it affects me or not! I am not afraid of Aquiles Álvarez, I am not afraid of those things. It is against the law to cause a financial panic. It is not relevant, but it is a shame, I don't investigate what Aquiles Álvarez's company is, but that kind of mediocrity of trying to harm others is not well seen. It is exactly what I am complaining about".
He also addressed the issue of the lights that Alfaro Moreno offered to donate to the Ponchito stadium: "I felt offended, before giving the interview, if they had approached me and said they wanted to donate the lights, whether they are useful or not, I would have seen it from a positive perspective. But to suggest it in a media outlet, whether they are old lights or scrap, I will never see it as a good thing".
Chango justified his statements about why Barcelona had won the 2020 title in the final that it won 3-1 on penalties against Liga de Quito at the Rodrigo Paz stadium "thanks" to LigaPro. "That is my personal opinion because Barcelona played their matches in the Sierra in 2020 starting at 7:00 PM and the one organizing it is the competitions committee (of LigaPro). And I have made my complaints to Miguel Loor as the president of LigaPro. On the other hand, I have also expressed in the media my discontent that Barcelona does not want to play in Echaleche at 4:00 PM, and LigaPro does not schedule it either. The argument and justification is always that it is a direct request from GolTV. And if you play the whole championship at 7:00 PM in the Sierra, you are benefiting from that schedule".
Finally, the former president of Pochito stated: "Emelec and Barcelona are the only teams playing at 7:00 PM. I have not violated any article, statute, or regulation of LigaPro, nor of the FEF, much less the LigaPro Code of Ethics. I am demanding a fair right. Even Alfaro Moreno is saying that in 2021, if there are no lights in Echaleche, Barcelona will not play there. What does that make you think? An intelligent person realizes that (the Canaries) will not go to Echaleche either".
