The Ecuadorian international Gonzalo Plata, although he did not play and remained on the bench, achieved his first title with Sporting CP on Saturday, January 23, since he joined the team of the Primeira Liga of Portugal in January 2019.
Sporting, the current leader of the national championship, won their third League Cup title by defeating Sporting de Braga 1-0 in Leiria (central Portugal) with a goal scored by Spanish player Pedro Porro in the 41st minute.
To reach the final, the Lions defeated Porto 2-1 in the semifinals, while Braga dispatched Benfica with the same score.
Plata, 20 years old, participated in his team's victory over Porto last Tuesday, playing four minutes of regulation time and six of stoppage time, in which Jovane Cabral scored two goals for the victory (86 min, 90+4 min). (D)
