Aquiles Álvarez, sports vice president of Barcelona SC, addressed the constant exchanges of words he has had with Esteban Paz, leader of Liga de Quito. The canary director stated that the capital's representative 'forgets about his trajectory' and how he used to complain to the Commission of Arbitration and criticize the referees in previous years. Additionally, he wouldn't hesitate to 'get his hands dirty'.
"Esteban Paz has many years in football, he has an important school with his father (Rodrigo) and I respect everything he has achieved, I consider Rodrigo a gentleman. I have no problem in acknowledging the greatness of a leader. But when it comes to Esteban, he forgets about his trajectory, about how he has acted as a leader," Álvarez began in an interview with radio Diblú.
"Seven years ago, on his Twitter account, he complained to the Arbitration Commission, he complained about Roddy Zambrano, he complained about Alfredo Intriago, he pressured the current president. So much so that he was penalized by the FEF," the canary director continued; he also mentioned that they are awaiting the decision of the FEF and LigaPro regarding Paz's comments against 'a different person who is vice president of a club associated with LigaPro, where he is a member of the board'.
Álvarez also explained the background of his tweets, where he pointed out and criticized the poor Ecuadorian refereeing. "I complained about something that was obvious, something that everyone could see. I haven't said that he or Liga bought a referee. The context of my tweets is the abysmal level of refereeing. And if in that level Liga came out favored, it's not my fault. It could be that they make mistakes unintentionally in favor of Liga," he argued.
Finally, the director made it clear that 'I have never accused them of being corrupt' and that if he sees Paz 'I won't tolerate it'.
"If after my tweets he insults me and calls me a clown and a hypocrite, then we are entering another field. I am respectful. If I see him, I won't put up with it, and if I have to get my hands dirty, I will without a problem," he concluded. (D)
