The president of the FC Barcelona Management Commission, Carles Tusquets, announced that "the elections will be around Christmas time," at the press conference he gave after the first meeting of the new governing body of the club held this Monday.
"We have decided to call the elections in the shortest possible time period, provided that the health conditions allow it," he said.
In this regard, he informed that a working group has been formed to carry out these elections, which is formed by the Socio Ombudsman, Joan Manuel Trayter, the Transparency Commission, and the Disciplinary Commission. This working group will propose "a coordinated work plan with the health authorities."
Tusquets continued explaining that the club will dedicate "all logistical and human resources to organize an election at the level that this club deserves."
"We have not yet had a meeting with the Government of Catalonia, but the information we receive tells us that it will be very difficult to hold a vote between November and December," he added.
And he opened the door "to the distribution of the vote in different venues" while ruling out the possibility of implementing electronic voting, "because it is not contemplated in the statutes."
On the other hand, the president of the FC Barcelona Management Commission also referred to the economic situation of the club, which he described as "very complex."
"We need to continue reducing our expenses in the short term and we continue working on the salary negotiation table with the players and non-sports staff of the club to reach an agreement before November 5. I hope that all staff will rise to the occasion," he said.
In this regard, he revealed that there has been a willingness from the players "to reach an agreement" before November 5. "We do not want to take money away from anyone," he assured.
The lines of action to improve the economic situation of FC Barcelona will be two by the Management Commission: "reduce expenses and look for income that does not currently exist."
"To balance the budget, efforts of around 300 million euros are needed," Tusquets said, who "sees it possible to implement a containment plan for both income and expenses."
However, he pointed out that "all decisions made in this area will be reversible by the new board of directors and will be stipulated in the clauses."
Regarding whether signings can be made in the winter market, Tusquets admitted that they will only be possible if "players are sold first or if those who come do so with a release clause." EFE
