The president of FC Barcelona, Josep Maria Bartomeu, announced on Tuesday his resignation and that of his entire board of directors, before facing a vote of no confidence.
"I appear to communicate my resignation and that of the rest of the board of directors," the president said at a press conference, adding that "it is a thoughtful, calm, consulted, and agreed decision by all colleagues."
Bartomeu, who took office in 2010 and was reelected in 2015, says he made the decision because he was unable to carry out the vote of no confidence under the conditions that the board considers appropriate.
Bartomeu and his board claimed that they needed at least 15 days to organize the vote of no confidence with the necessary health security measures, so they wanted to carry it out on November 15-16, instead of November 1-2, as stated in the entity's bylaws.
